The young priest wrote the text of the song in 1816 in Mariapfarr and 2 years later in Oberndorf, the musical arrangement by F.X. Also to be found here is the facsimile (200 ATS) of the original manuscript of 'SILENT NIGHT; HOLY NIGHT'. It is the only one to be written by the hand of Joseph Mohr and bears the date 1816. When this manuscript was discovered in 1995 it provided the key to a wholly new interpretation of the creation of the song, and it is here, at Steingasse Nr. 9 that this story began. |
